December 12 -- John & Chris in Charlottesville

After another delicious meal, I left Charlotte in the early afternoon to see John and Chris, two friends I got to know at UVa when they were medical students and I was in law school.

The drive took me north past Winston-Salem into Virginia on I-77. I then headed northeast on I-81, threading between the Appalachians and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Finally, around Staunton, VA, I took I-64 into Charlottesville.

I always forget, and am then reminded anew, how beautiful Virginia is.

I met John at the office around 7:00 p.m.. He and Chris run a very successful endochrinology and internal medicine practice in Charlottesville; in addition, John is a television commentator, a newspaper columnist, and has a web site, “Real Medicine, Plain Talk” (link at right).

I have been able to get together with John and Chris about every other year since school. It is always a big treat for me to see them, and it was particularly wonderful to have a relaxed evening at their place to catch up over a tasty Italian dinner and then pastries. Chris’s parents joined us for dessert and then stayed the night as well. I loved meeting them, and seeing how Chris takes after each of them.
